When the line's Ruby Princess ship arrived at the Port of San Francisco at 6:05 a.m. local time, it "made unexpected contact" with the wharf, a Princess representative said in an email.

The spokesperson stated that there were no injuries and that none of the crew members or visitors were ever in danger. "Descent is complete and the ship is safely alongside." According to Cruise Mapper, the ship was returning from a round-trip voyage to Alaska that started on June 26.

"I noticed we were spinning pretty quick, to be that close to the dock, and I was mid-ship, portside, looked out the window and we smacked into the dock," passenger Paul Zasso told the Bay Area’s ABC7 News.

A Princess spokeswoman stated that an evaluation of the dock and ship's damage was in progress. The following voyage's departure time "is still being determined," although embarkation started at 11:30 a.m. local time.

There have been other incidents of this nature in recent years. In 2019, the MSC Opera cruise ship from MSC Cruises struck a pier and a tourist river boat in Venice, Italy, and earlier that year, the Norwegian Epic from Norwegian Cruise Line struck a port in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
