A Bristol teacher who sent naked photos of himself to a girl and asked for sex in the changing rooms has been banned from the profession indefinitely. Tyler Lewis turned up unannounced near the student’s home with a bunch of flowers and also gave her perfume, and they later kissed in his car.

The 27-year-old PE teacher was warned by Corsham School in Wiltshire on multiple occasions about his conduct towards the child but persisted. A Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA) panel found all allegations proven and Lewis, who did not attend the hearing earlier this month and chose to have no representation, guilty of unacceptable professional conduct.

The teacher exchanged inappropriate messages with the youngster, Student A, over a two year period and sent flowers to her home with a note saying: “Remember how beautiful you are,” The TRA report said: “Student A said that she had changed her skirt on the last day of term, in that she made it tighter and shorter.

“She said that ‘Tyler Lewis repeatedly mentioned how good I looked that day and made comments on what I’d done to my skirt to tighten it around my body’.” The report said that after staff raised concerns, the teacher was suspended pending an investigation and resigned five days later.

Lewis admitted at a school investigation meeting almost a year before his resignation that he exchanged private messages with the girl on social media. Referring to one exchange over the two year period, a witness told the hearing: “Student A stayed outside the PE block and was texting on her phone, during this time I noticed that Tyler Lewis’s phone would buzz, then he would type and Student A’s phone would buzz.

They would then glance at each other. It was really odd.” The TRA’s report said: “Witness C said that she approached Student A and asked her what was going on, and she said ‘he’s been texting me and won’t stop’.”

It said the messaging between the pair was the subject of three investigations by the school, with each outcome stepping up the schools’ response. Student A told the hearing: “Tyler Lewis dropped off a bunch of flowers at the top of my road.

“I crossed the road once I saw him, he gave me the flowers and also gave me a hug.” She said she met the teacher in a public place in Bath and they spoke for 10 minutes, hugged up to six times and he gave her Gucci perfume.

The report said Lewis admitted meeting the girl but claimed it was not a planned meeting. However, Student A told the panel: “Tyler Lewis told me that he would stop in Bath on his way back to Bristol purely just to see me.”

A witness said that on one occasion they saw the pair in their cars parked next to each other near the school and “the whole scenario seemed planned and wrong”. Lewis said in a statement to the nearing: “Recent, newly formed, claims that I had sent inappropriate picture(s) of myself to Student A are just not correct and frankly a lie.

“I can categorically say that I have never sent any sexually motivated or revealing pictures to Student A across any platform at any time. This has just not happened.” However, the girl told the panel he did, including a picture of his penis.

She said the teacher repeatedly asked her to meet him in the changing rooms because it would be “a good place to have sex”. The report said that despite trying to conceal his contact with the youngster, Lewis accepted during a school investigatory meeting that his behaviour was “wrong and in breach of the school’s code of conduct”.

Lewis said in his letter to the panel: “I want to make it very clear that I am completely aware of my wrongdoings in this investigation, and my inappropriate involvements with Student A have rightfully cost me so much in my life already. I was fairly dismissed from my role within The Corsham School due to my actions on numerous occasions involving Student A and despite warnings given by The Corsham School.

“My behaviour regarding the situation has been highly unprofessional and should never have happened.” But the report said: “The panel noted that whilst Lewis had apologised for his conduct, there was no demonstration of any insight or remorse in respect of his misconduct.

Lewis failed to demonstrate any degree of empathy or acknowledge the impact of his actions on others. The panel noted that his letter focused solely on his apology and the impact of his own actions on himself.

“The panel felt that Lewis did not have a basic understanding of how serious his actions were.” A Corsham school spokesperson said: “The safety and wellbeing of our students is our highest priority, and we ensure this through rigorous application of the school’s policies and procedures.”
